Discover our story

Our institutional story

Rooted in Rwanda. Focused on human rights.

Human Rights Voice (HRV) emerged from the vision of NSABIMANA EMMANUEL LEON, who previously served as co-founder, Secretary General, and Programs Manager of another human rights organization in Rwanda from 2017 to 2019.

HRV has been operational since October 10, 2019, with its official establishment occurring on January 4, 2020. Currently, HRV is still facing challenges in obtaining its registration status. The application for registration was submitted officially on December 16, 2021, but the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) has yet to provide a response.

Despite HRV's limited registration status, our strategic approach ensures verified documentation reaches policymakers, diplomatic missions, and international human rights bodies, reinforcing global accountability mechanisms.

Governance

Its Board of Directors consists of 3 elected individuals, with plans to incorporate five additional independent members to be selected from a pool of advisors.

The HRV Advisory Council will include representatives from five distinct circles of supporters and allies, including but not limited to both international and national experts, and human rights defenders.
